Providing Market Access and technology innovation in China, ASEAN (Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos), Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Australia
Background
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)
In 2022, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was a timely tool to foster regional integration and economic growth. RCEP comprising 10 Southeast Asian nations together with Australia, New Zealand, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and South Korea has the potential to strengthen manufacturing supply chains, raise productivity, and increase wages and employment.
RCEP was conceptualized in November 2012 to attain a comprehensive and mutually beneficial economic partnership agreement. After 8 years of negotiations, RCEP was signed on 15 November 2020. This laid a historic milestone on the road towards deeper economic integration.
RCEP entered into force on 1 January 2022. RCEP does not supersede existing free trade agreements.
RCEP has a huge market potential as RCEP covers the world’s largest Free Trade Agreements comprising 15 Asia-Pacific economies. RCEP also covers one-third of the global GDP and one-third of the global population.
